An Associated Press story of Sunday, Feb. 9, on a loophole that lets convicted felons own firearms legally in several states incorrectly listed Florida among the states where the loophole automatically applies.
Florida does restore civil rights to felons after they complete their prison terms, parole or probation. However, the state does not automatically restore the right to own guns. Felons who want their gun rights back must wait eight years before applying to the state, then undergo a background check and win approval of the Executive Clemency Board, said Janet Keels, clemency office coordinator.
