NEW RIVER PEOPLE IN BUSINESS
Giles County native PHILLIP H. BUCHANAN was elected financial planning officer in the trust and financial services division of the Flat Top National Bank of Bluefield by its board of directors.In his new position for the West Virginia-based bank, Buchanan will be responsible for developing a new trust sales program, employee benefits, personal trusts and estate planning.
Formerly, Buchanan was an attorney with the Norfolk law firm of Wilcox and Savage. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech and the Washington and Lee University Law School. He is also a member of several bar associations.
\ RUTH BOYD, manager of the Little Caesars Pizza Restaurant in Christiansburg, was named Manager of the Year by the Pamanda Inc., which heads 27 franchises, at the annual awards banquet held in Roanoke.
Boyd started with the company as an assistant manager in 1989 and was promoted that same year to manager of the Christiansburg store. She is a business management graduate from Radford University.
For the second consecutive year, NORMAN HALL, an advertising representative for the Roanoke Times & World-News' New River Valley bureau, was named Salesperson of the Year for 1991 by the bureau's advertising department.
He has worked for the newspaper for more than 20 years.
\ JACOB A. LUTZ III, a 1978 Virginia Tech graduate, has been named a partner with the Richmond-based law firm of Mays & Valentine.
Lutz, who earned his law degree from the College of William and Mary, joined the firm in 1990 as counsel. He is the son of Mrs. Jacob A. Lutz Jr. of Blacksburg.
\ MIKE WILLIAMS, managing editor of The Southwest Times since 1986, has been promoted to editor and general manager effective this month. He joined the Pulaski newspaper's staff in 1977.
\ BOBBI BAKER MAUCK has been promoted to administrative assistant for the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. She started with the chamber in November as a secretary and receptionist.
\ SHERRY SCHMIDT recently joined the chamber to take over that position.
