IN HARD TIMES, TEACHERS GREEDY CRYBABIES

IT SEEMS that Virginia teachers are as slow as George Bush to learn that the country is in recession.

Several hundred of these greedy crybabies, along with some misguided parents, marched on the Capitol demanding more money for themselves and for the blundering, bloated bureaucracy they represent. At a time when many people would be happy just to have a job, these "lovers of our children" want to bankrupt the rest of us.

Why would anyone, unless he's brain-dead, want to keep on pouring hard-earned money into a school system that is less effective than it was 40 years ago? We are paying more for education than any nation on Earth, and we are getting students academically equivalent to those in Third World nations.

The fact that private and parochial schools do a much superior job of educating children for half the money per child spent in the public school system is proof positive that more money is not the answer to our educational needs.

Teachers, if you can't live without a raise, why not try living without a job? Join the long line of unemployed who can no longer afford your services. HERBERT MARTIN BOONES MILL
