Comedy opens in Moneta"The Man Who Came to Dinner," by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, will open Thursday at the Moneta Medical Arts Center.
A production of the Lakeside Players of Smith Mountain Arts Council, the 1940s-era comedy will be performed at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Jeff Berger is directing the show.
Tickets are $6 for arts council members and $8 for non-members.

Authors to read works
Jeri Watts, Gary Chenoweth and Toni Williams will read from their short stories for the first program in Rockbridge Regional Library's "Local Writers Reading Series" Feb. 23 at 3 p.m.
The series supports Rockbridge/Bath area writers who have not received wide recognition or do not have publication credits.
In addition to short stories, Watts writes humor, non-fiction articles and children's stories. She is an elementary school teacher in Lexington.
Chenoweth, a plant engineer, has been writing short stories for three years.
Williams is a regular contributor to Virginia Country magazine and the Books page of the Roanoke Times & World-News. She will read her prize-winning story from the 1991 Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest.

Dancer will perform
Cathy Paine & Mixed Media will perform Friday at 8:15 p.m. in the Hollins College Theatre.
Paine is a Richmond-based choreographer/dancer whose contemporary dance works combine movement with original vocalization and music. The works tend to be satirical, topical and laced with humor.
Paine graduated from Ohio University and later earned a master's degree in performance and choreography from the University of California at Los Angeles. She was a resident teacher and choreographer at Dance Place in Washington from 1980 to '85, and has danced as far afield as London and Hong Kong.
Lighting and scene designs for the company's performances are created by its associate director, visual artist Julyen Norman.

`Fantasticks' coming
The Barter Players will present "The Fantasticks" at Virginia Western Community College on March 25.
The performance will be in Whitman Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5. They can be bought in the Virginia Western bookstore or reserved by calling 857-7334.
The Barter Players are from the Barter Theatre in Abingdon.
Author to sign books
Dr. George K. Bowers will sign copies of his Civil War epic, "The Train That Never Ran," March 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Park-Oak Grove retirement community in Roanoke.
Bowers has served as a pastor, college teacher and minister to the deaf. He is known for his volunteer work with youths.
