Christopher Donald, an eighth-grader at BLACKSBURG MIDDLE SCHOOL, was selected from nominees throughout Virginia to serve as a page in the Virginia House of Delegates during the 1992 General Assembly.The choice is based on scholarship, service and recommendation by local delegates.
Donald is the son of Wayne and Darla Donald.
He is an honor roll student, active in church and school activities, and a member of Boy Scout Troop 704.
Donald was recommended to Speaker of the House Tom Moss by Del. Joan Munford of Blacksburg.
Donald will be in Richmond until March 7.
Original artwork, merchant gift certificates, furniture and child care are some of the items and services you'll find at a silent auction Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the\ BLACKSBURG NEW SCHOOL, 1600 Whipple Drive. Bidding will end at 8 p.m.
More than 50 items were donated for the auction.
There are items of interest for both children and adults. Proceeds will benefit the New School.

To promote reading of the classics, BLACKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL has created the "Principal's Classic Club."
All students may read books from the classics list that has been compiled by the school's English department.
The books are weighted based on their difficulty and length. Students earning four points by May 1 will receive a certificate at the school's awards assembly and will be treated to lunch by Principal Clinton LeGette.

The Chapter I program of Montgomery County Public Schools will sponsor a "FAMILY LITERACY CELEBRATION" at the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg Saturday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Families may visit the reading and writing centers, computer activities, book displays, storytelling, singing, puppet shows, balloons and an appearance by Clifford the Dog and Spot.
The PULASKI COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BAND BOOSTERS will meet tonight at 7:30 in the band room.
The jazz band will perform.

The CHRISTIANSBURG HIGH SCHOOL Vocational Industrial Food Occupations Club has been busy working on safety awareness projects.
Members conducted a seat-belt survey to make students aware of the importance of buckling up when getting in a car.
During National Vocational Education Week Feb. 10-15, the club gave a lunchtime presentation on seat belts with the help of Christiansburg police officers Reid Dalton and Kim Albert.
Vince and Larry, the car dummies, were there, and fliers were distributed.
As part of its fire prevention studies, the club sponsored a visit by firefighter Billy Linkous, who talked about kitchen fires and how to prevent them.
He also showed the students how to use a fire extinguisher and explained the three different kinds of fires.
Dennis O'Neill, an actor, singer and comedian, will visit BLACKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL on Thursday.
His topic will be "Say No to Drugs" and "Yes to Life."
O'Neill has worked with Sylvester Stallone, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, Robert DeNiro and other famous actors. He also was Robin Williams' stunt man.
The visit is sponsored by a Community Alliance for Drug Rehabilitation Education grant.
Also included in the grant will be a drug-free party, "High on Life," scheduled for March 12.
The CLAREMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Parent-Teacher Organization will meet tonight at 7 in the school cafeteria.
The school's kindergarteners will present the program.
The Appalkids, storytellers and musicians from PULASKI COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, will perform at the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library headquarters on Sheltman Street in Christiansburg on Monday at 4 p.m. and at the Blacksburg branch library on Feb. 27 at 4:30 p.m.
The group will perform Appalachian music, folk tales and dialogue.

Senior Jennifer Boyle of BLACKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL is the school's student of the month for February.
Boyle is the daughter of Stephen and Patricia Boyle. She is a member of the varsity volleyball team, Students Against Drunk Driving, National Honor Society and French National Honor Society.
She also is on the teen board at New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg and is secretary of the peer-counseling group at the Blacksburg High School.
