WHEELCHAIR ACCESS DENIED BY PARKED CAR

AT A LOCAL shopping mall recently, I saw a vehicle illegally parked, completely blocking the ramp leading from the sidewalk to the handicapped parking spaces.

A lady in a wheelchair was trying to get to her car, which was legally parked in one of the handicapped spaces. Her access to her vehicle was blocked by the car illegally astride the ramp.

Would you believe that the driver of the illegally parked car had the gall to tell the lady and her companion that they would just have to wait a minute until her purchases arrived and they could be placed in her trunk? I wouldn't have believed it either, if I hadn't seen it. The depths to which some people will sink continue to amaze me. ROBERT R. MITCHELL JR. ROANOKE
