BLACKSBURG CHAMBER HAS NEW DIRECTOR
Heritage Hall nursing home's social services director has been named executive director of the Greater Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce. Karen L. McCollum starts her new job March 16 at a salary of $22,500. She succeeds Arnold Saari, who took a leave of absence last August to run for Montgomery County treasurer. He lost and resigned from the chamber in November.
McCollum will be the fourth executive director for the chamber in two years, not including Sandra Stanwitz, the chamber's marketing director who has been acting executive director since last September.
"Ms. McCollum is an intelligent, outgoing and confident person, as well as a person who is very good with details," chamber President Patrick D. Cupp said Tuesday. "She also will bring experience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work with people. These qualities, and the fact that she is a local person, should make her a very able executive director."
McCollum has been responsible for social services and admissions at Heritage Hall for 18 months. Before that, she was an office clerk at United Gas Co. in Blacksburg for two years and residence hall coordinator and resident director at Radford University for four years. She has a master's degree in counseling and student personnel and a bachelor's degree in social work from Radford.
