MARCH 3 IS DEADLINE IF YOU WANT TO BE MUNICIPAL CANDIDATE

It's time for citizens who have complaints about government to turn them into action.

Municipal elections will be held in May and the deadline to apply as a candidate is March 3. That's less than two weeks away.

Candidate information is available from the State Board of Elections, (800) 552-9745. The board will send a packet telling how to apply for candidacy.

One of the requirements is collecting a petition with at least 125 signatures from registered voters. The petition must be turned in with such information as a declaration of candidacy, a statement of property holdings and the candidate's qualifications.

Registrars have to check each name on every petition, as well as all the other information. It's a tedious process and can be made easier by applying early.

There are numerous seats open in each town in the New River Valley and in the city of Radford:
