STAUNTON RIVER DOWNS RUSTBURG

Eric Flood scored 25 points and Staunton River shot 74.3 percent in downing Rustburg 68-47 in a Seminole District game on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles made 26 of 35 field-goal attempts in overpowering the Devils (6-13, 6-13).

Staunton River (10-9, 10-9), which led 26-21 at halftime, missed three shots in the second half. The Golden Eagles encountered foul trouble in the third quarter but brought back their regular lineup and pulled away.

Mike William had 10 points for Staunton River, and Shawn Edmonds had 13 rebounds and eight points. \

Tazewell 84

Blacksburg 78

TAZEWELL - After being down 42-40 at halftime, Tazewell outscored Blacksburg 21-9 in the third quarter and went on to win its non-district boys' basketball game.

The Bulldogs (12-8 overall 4-2 Southwest District) went on a 10-2 early in the third quarter, and their defense shut down the Indians (14-5 overall 5-0 New River District).

Blacksburg staged a comeback in the fourth quarter hitting three 3-pointers to make it 76-72 Tazewell.

With 50 seconds to go in the game and Tazewell leading 82-78, Blacksburg attempted a dunk but missed. The Indians hung on the rim and were called for the technical. Tazewell made its two free throws and went on to win the game.

Darren Morton and John Maher were the high scorers for Blacksburg with 21 points each. Morton hit five 3-pointers and three in the first half. \

Chilhowie 78

Castlewood 55 CHILHOWIE - Jason Fore scored 14 of his 25 points in the

second half when the Warriors blew by the Blue Devils for a Hogoheegee District victory.

Trailing 33-32 at the half, Chilhowie (10-9, 7-6) outscored Castlewood 20-7 in the third quarter.

Patrick Brooks scored 18 for Chilhowie. \
