BOMBERS TRIP REBELS
The road remains a place of frustration for the Roanoke Valley Rebels.On Wednesday night, the Dayton Bombers scored three goals late in the second period and held on to defeat the Rebels 8-4 in East Coast Hockey League action.
The Rebels are 5-19-3 on the road with five away games remaining in their regular-season schedule.
The Bombers led 3-1 after the first period and 5-1 early in the second behind Darren Colbourne's scoring. Colbourne scored two of his three goals in the first period.
Roanoke Valley then scored three consecutive goals to make it 5-4. Dayton called a timeout to regroup, then went out and scored three goals in a span of 4:46 for the victory.
The Rebels were coming off 3-0 upset victory in Toledo on Tuesday.
\ ICE CHIPS: Mark Woolf's second-period goal gave him 44 for the season, one short of the Rebels' franchise record of 45 set by Mike Chighisola in 1988-89. . . . The Rebels didn't lose any ground in the battle for the sixth and final ECHL East Division playoff spot. The Cincinnati Cyclones defeated the Knoxville Cherokees 5-4, leaving Roanoke Valley (20-27-4) seven points ahead of the Cherokees (16-30-5). . . . The Rebels play host to Eastern Division-leading Greensboro on Friday and Nashville on Saturday at the Vinton LancerLot. \
