STUDENTS TO VIE FOR STATE YOUNG WOMAN OF YEAR

The Roanoke Valley will be host this weekend to Virginia's Young Woman of the Year program, sponsored by the Credit Marketing and Management Association.

Twenty-six high school seniors from throughout the state will compete for scholarships on the basis of scholastic achievement, interviews, fitness, creative and performing arts and presence-composure.

The event will be held Friday and Saturday at 7:15 p.m. in the Roanoke Civic Center Auditorium. Tickets cost $6, $8 and $10 for Friday's festivities and $8, $10 and $12 for Saturday's finals.

The contestants are:

Heather Anne Betts, West Point, daughter of Richard and Debbie Betts. She will perform an oboe solo.

Alison Kaye Bolt, Salem, daughter of Glenn and Glynda Bolt. She will sing.

Sandra Jean Carty, Bland, daughter of Douglas and Billy Jean Carty. She will tap dance.

Aruna Channaiah, Vinton, daughter of Arakere and Jaya Channaiah. She will perform a South Indian classical dance.

Susanne Marie Cordyack, Western Fairfax, daughter of John and Marianne Cordyack. She will sing.

Stephanie Elaine Cornwell, Hampton Roads, daughter of George and Armin Cornwell III. She will sing and dance.

Mary Elizabeth Deaver, Southern Fairfax, daughter of Bill and Sharon Deaver. She will perform a patriotic dance.

Jennifer Eberly, Richmond, daughter of Bruce and Carole Eberly. She will perform a cello solo.

Dana Lynn Ellis, Virginia Beach, daughter of Linda B. Vaughn. She will sing.

Rene Davina Elms, Arlington, daughter of David and DeRenda Elms. She will give a dramatic presentation.

Jennifer Elizabeth Gaskins, Annandale, daughter of Steve and Jan Gaskins. She will give a dramatic presentation.

Jennifer Alice Gorman, Alexandria, daughter of Bette S. Gorman and the late Joseph B. Gorman. She will give a dramatic presentation.

Amy Lou Hagen, Roanoke, daughter of L. Bolling and Mary Lou Hagen. She will play the piano.

Kristen Edair Huffman, Botetourt, daughter of Gwen Williams and Gary Huffman. She will sing.

Julie Lynne Johnson, West Springfield, daughter of Ron and Carol Johnson. She will play the piano.

Michelle Jin Kang, Fredericksburg, daughter of Paul and Miwha Kang. She will play the piano.

Brooke Elizabeth McKee, Chesapeake, daughter of Danny and Betty McKee. She will perform a violin solo.

Sandra Lynn McKeiver, Tri Cities, daughter of Michael and Linda McKeiver. She will perform a lyrical jazz dance.

Heather Elizabeth Nutter, Lynchburg, daughter of Randy and Marilyn Nutter. She will play a piano solo.

Stacey Rice, Lancaster County, daughter of Isaac and Joyce Rice. She will give a dramatic presentation.

Karen Louise Sanders, Wise County, daughter of Eddie and Louise Sanders. She will play the piano and sing.

Victoria Leanne Spurgeon, Bluefield, daughter of Eddie and Vickie Spurgeon. She will give a dramatic reading.

Jennifer Ann Surratt, Martinsville-Henry County, daughter of Gregory Surratt and the late Ann Surratt. She will perform a lyrical jazz dance.

Kari Peake Walter, Franklin County, daughter of Robert Walter and the late Janet Walter. She will play a piano solo.

Manda Lea Wheeler, Bedford County, daughter of Michael and Kathy Wheeler. She will perform a baton solo.

Mary Michelle Willingham, Springfield, daughter of Frank and Patricia Willingham. She will perform a piano solo.
