O'BRIEN-NAKASIAN COMBO BRINGS JAZZ TO MAXWELL'S
The Hod O'Brien Quartet, featuring jazz vocalist Stephanie Nakasian, will appear Monday through Thursday at Maxwell's.Leader Hod O'Brien has been called a vital part of the bebop-jazz era in the 1950s and is considered by many critics to be a brilliant, highly skilled musician.
In 1980, he began a collaboration with vocalist Stephanie Nakasian that has taken them all over the United States and Europe.
The singing style of Nakasian - who is best known for her work with the Grammy-nominated group Jon Hendricks and Company - has been compared with that of Ella Fitzgerald.
Her repertoire includes the standards of Gershwin, Porter, Ellington, Arlen and Rogers, as well as many selections from the bebop era by composers such as Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.
Nakasian, formerly an international financier, made her recording debut in 1985 on the Hod O'Brien record "Opalessence" and continues to perform his music as well as her own original material.
Entertainment starts at 9 p.m. There is a $3 cover charge.
