BENEFIT FOR DJ DANDY DON OF WFNR TODAY AT AUBURN
SPECIALS: WFNR will have a benefit gospel sing and auction today at Auburn High School to help disc jockey Dandy Don's family through a recent loss. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. The auction begins at 6 p.m. followed by entertainment at 7 p.m. Scheduled performers are the Martin Family, Wanda Gail, Young at Heart and the Victory Gospel Singers.Also today, WPSK's "Bid It or Buy It Radio Auction" begins at 9 a.m. All you do is call-in a bid on one of the hundreds of items up for sale and it may be yours. WUVT is a sponsor of Monday's Knitting Factory touring concert, which features three live bands. The show starts at 8 p.m. at Squires Student Center. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for non-students.
WVRU is airing a new 12-part series on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. called "Thinking About Drinking." The half-hour documentaries explore America's No. 1 substance-abuse problem. This fourth segment is entitled "Road to Recovery" and features three personal accounts of what it means to stop drinking.
\ NEWS PROGRAMS: WVRU's "Talk of the Town," which airs at 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Friday, features a look at the new Museum of Television and Radio in New York City.
"Speakers Corner" airs on WVRU Monday at 1 p.m. with anchorman Roger Mudd, who this week interviews U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan on ethnic groups.
WJJJ has Paul Harvey twice today, at 8:30 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., with quips on events and people, as well as news and comment.
\ INTERNATIONAL: "Lakutshon Ilanga: Music Is a Healer," broadcast on WVRU Tuesday at 8 p.m., features South African music. Part 7 of this 13-part series is entitled "The Impact of `Graceland'," Paul Simon's album.
WVRU's "International Folk Music Hour" airs today, 2-3 p.m.
WUVT plays "New Music" weekdays noon-9 p.m., and airs an "International Fest" today, 5-9 p.m., with reggae, ska, blues, dance and more.
\ LIVE BASKETBALL: South Florida is at Virginia Tech today starting at 2:40 p.m. It can be heard over WVVV, WKEX, WJJJ, WRAD and WRIQ. Those stations will also carry Tech at Liberty on Monday beginning at 7 p.m.
In local high school sports, WKEX will carry the New River District High School Tournament from Blacksburg High School Wednesday through Friday beginning each night at 7 p.m.
\ ROCK: WVRU's "Long Live Rock," Monday at 9 p.m., has part two of an Aerosmith feature, covering 1980 to the present.
