HOWARD, WILLIAM J.

William Joseph Howard, age 64 of Roanoke, died Friday, February 21, 1992 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Brown G. and Alice Smith Howard of Floyd and was preceded in death by his son, William J. Howard Jr. Surviving are his wife, Ann Gallimore Howard, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Michael Good, Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Edward Spyhalski, Floyd; brother and sister-in-law, Brown and Betty Howard, Floyd; two grandsons, David Good, William J. Howard, III; five nephews. He was a charter member of the Colonial Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, where he served as a deacon, an elder and chairman of the building committee. He was a certified Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and had retired from Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23 at Colonial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mike Nevling and Rev. Fleet Powell officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, with graveside services at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, and at Colonial Presbyterian Church one hour prior to the service on Sunday. The family and friends will assemble at the Maberry Funeral Home at 3:45 p.m. Sunday for the graveside services. If friends desire to make memorial gifts, they can be sent to Colonial Presbyterian Church.
