MAN, 36, INDICTED ON RAPE CHARGES
A Salem grand jury has indicted a man on charges of rape that date back to 1979.Bannister Dale Neal, 36, of Golfview Drive in Roanoke, was indicted on two counts of rape and one count of carnal knowledge of a child between the age of 13 and 15.
The indictments charge that one rape occurred sometime in 1979, another in April of 1981; the carnal knowledge offense occurred between September and December of 1983.
Charges were brought after the victim, who is now 22, recently approached authorities and reported the alleged offenses.
Salem Commonwealth's Attorney Fred King declined to elaborate on the case Friday. "She had her reasons for coming forward at this time, and I'm sure that will come out at the trial," he said.
