EX-BUSH AIDE OK'D TO HEAD TRANSPORTATION

The Senate on Friday confirmed President Bush's choice of Deputy White House Staff Chief Andrew Card to become secretary of transportation.

On a voice vote without dissent, the Senate approved Card's nomination to succeed Samuel Skinner, who resigned in December to replace John Sununu as Bush's chief of staff.

A former Massachusetts state legislator, Card, 44, managed Bush's 1988 New Hampshire Republican primary campaign and had been his deputy staff chief since the start of the administration.
