NOVA VISIBLE IN SKY FOR FIRST TIME SINCE '75
For the first time in 17 years, a nova visible to the naked eye has appeared in the sky. Evidence of the sudden bright stellar flare was discovered this week in the constellation Cygnus.Nova Cygni 1992 was spotted by Peter Collins, an amateur astronomer from Colorado, according to the International Astronomical Union.
The last time a nova this bright was discovered from the Northern Hemisphere was Nova Cygni 1975. `It looks exactly like a star and should peak out in about a week," said Brian A. Skiff of Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Ariz.
