2 PEDESTRIANS KILLED IN FRIDAY ACCIDENTS
Two pedestrians were killed and a third injured Friday night after they were struck by vehicles in separate accidents occurring moments apart.William Thomas Blanchard, 54, of Lynchburg was killed after he was struck about 7:55 p.m. by a car driven by an off-duty Lynchburg Lifesaving Crew member, police said. Police said Blanchard was crossing the road when the accident occurred and died about an hour later at Lynchburg General Hospital.
The driver of the car was not charged.
Linda Callahan May, 43, of Lynchburg was struck by a pickup as she crossed U.S. 460 about 8:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead at Lynchburg General Hospital at 8:45 p.m., authorities said. The driver of the pickup was not charged, police said.
The third accident also occurred about 8:30 p.m., police said. Police said an unidentified man was struck by a car and the driver fled.
Police Cmdr. S.K. Newby said the victim was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with minor injuries. Police said they wanted to question the driver of a green El Camino in that incident.
