`HEART INTO EDUCATION' A ROUSING SUCCESS
On behalf of the Montgomery County Education Association, Montgomery County Public Schools and the Montgomery County Council of PTAs, I would like to thank those parents, students, teachers, staff and School Board members who participated in "Put Your Heart Into Education."Approximately 300 community members took time from personal Valentine's Day celebrations to take part Feb. 14 at Blacksburg High School. Designed to promote positive images of education, the activities included demonstrations in math, language, science, English, social studies, computer and vocational education programs.
Many participated in physical fitness activities, watched a laser show and received services provided by vocational education students. Others watched children perform an opera or demonstrate Native American dancing. Still others listened to forensic debates.
We also thank the School Board members who attended and made themselves available to the public to discuss issues on programs and the budget.
Montgomery County's educational groups have worked very hard to put forth a budget that will optimize the county educational system. Perhaps most importantly, we have worked together on this goal for the first time in a very long time.
The responsibility to join in reaching a reasonable goal for funding priorities for education in Montgomery County now lies with the Board of Supervisors. We urge members of the community to call and request that they join with educators towards this goal.\ Alice Tucker\ MCEA Communications
