GARST, JAMES L., JR.James Lewis Garst, Jr., age 69, died Friday, February 21, 1992, at Lewis-Gale Hospital. Born September 2, 1922, in Washington, D.C., he was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Navy. He graduated from Beaver High School in Bluefield, W. Va., and V.P.I. with a degree in chemical engineering. He was employed as a draftsman at the Virginia Department of Transportation where he retired. He was preceded in death by his father, James Lewis Garst, Sr., his mother, Mary Peatross Garst and a brother, Thomas Garst. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James L. III and Lauran Garst of Oak Ridge, N. C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Howard and Marion Garst of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura G. and W. David Shinault of Catawba; two sisters, Eleanor Garst DePonce of Sante Fe, N.M.; and Ann Garst Stimble, Missouri; grandchildren, Cynthia Gail Huffman, W. Daniel Shinault, Kelly Garst and J. Scott Garst; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Lewis-Garst Cemetery in Catawba with the Rev. Gary Kingery officiating.
