FOREST SERVICE EXTENDS POWER-LINE COMMENTS
The U.S. Forest Service has extended its public comment period on Appalachian Power Co.'s proposal to build a power line across southern West Virginia to Virginia.Public comment on a Forest Service environmental impact statement was scheduled to end March 31. But power-line opponents complained of a lack of public notice about the deadline.
Frank Bergman of the Forest Service said a new deadline has not been set.
Bob Zacher, leader of Common Ground, a Monroe County, W.Va., group opposed to the power line, said the Forest Service also plans a series of public meetings along the line's proposed route. - Associated Press
