LYNCHBURG CHRISTIAN EDGES RVC FOR TITLE

Jenni DeSaegher sank a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to give Lynchburg Christian a 59-57 victory over Roanoke Valley Christian in the championship game of the Blue Ridge Conference girls' basketball tournament Saturday at Carlisle.

RVC (15-8) missed a shot with five seconds left that would have tied the nip-and-tuck game.

Mandy Britt added 16 points for the winners. Danae Wegner scored a game-high 22 for RVC, followed by Stephanie Webb with 14 and Brandi Surkamer 12.

Roanoke Catholic (16-4) had a 15-4 fourth-quarter burst that put away a 55-37 victory over Timberlake Christian for third place.

Shannon Simpson poured in 26 points and had 10 rebounds, and Abby Dickson had nine points and 15 rebounds for the Celtics. Staff report
