LANCERS' HODGE GETS TOP PIEDMONT HONOR
To the surprise of no one, Laurel Park's Odell Hodge was selected the Piedmont District boys' basketball player of the year Friday.The 6-foot-8 Hodge, headed to Old Dominion University on a basketball grant, has dominated the Piedmont District this year in leading the Lancers to an unbeaten league record. He repeats the honor he earned last year when he also was chosen the state's Group AA and Timesland player of the year.
Frank Scott of Laurel Park and Bene Gravely of Fieldale-Collinsville were named co-coaches of the year.
Hodge is joined on the first team by Bassett's Dytanyon Norman, Tunstall's Tarrace Carter, Martinsville's Maurice Spencer and Gretna's Eric Waller.
