VIRGINIA HIGH DUMPS MARION TO WIN TITLE

Virginia High defeated Marion 59-31 and captured the Highlands District regular season boys' basketball title Saturday.

The win also allowed Virginia High to host the district tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Robbie Howard scored a game-high 16 points to lead Virginia High (19-3). Adrian Sensabaugh scored 12 points and Brian Banfield chipped in 11 for Virginia High.

Marion (18-4) was led by Jason Lefler's 11 points.

Marion and Virginia High finished the regular season tied atop the district with 9-1 records, making Saturday's playoff necessary. - Staff report
