ROCKY GAP RALLIES TO ELIMINATE SPARTANS
Rocky Gap rallied from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to topple Giles 49-47 in a preliminary round of the Mountain Empire District tournament Saturday.
The Eagles trailed 45-31 with 7:50 remaining in the fourth quarter, but caught up while holding the Spartans scoreless for nearly seven minutes. Rocky Gap outscored Giles 18-4 in the quarter and took its first lead with about a minute remaining.
Eric Faulkner led the Eagles with 12 points. Jeff Jeffers had 12 for Giles, which led 20-7 after one quarter.
Rocky Gap enters the district tournament as the seventh seed and will play second-seeded Grayson County on Tuesday night at Christiansburg High School.
