BOTETOURT RESIDENT NAMED YOUNG WOMAN OF YEAR

Kristen Edair Huffman of Botetourt County was named Virginia's Young Woman of the Year Saturday night.

Twenty-six high school seniors from across the state competed for scholarships on the basis of scholastic achievement, interviews, fitness, creative and performing arts, and presence-composure.

Huffman, the daughter of Gwen Williams and Gary Huffman, will receive a $4,500 college scholarship. She also was honored for fitness, presence-composure and creative and performing arts.

Other winners included: Heather Nutter of Lynchburg, first honoree and panel evaluation; Michelle Kang of Fredericksburg, second honoree; Aruna Channaiah of Vinton, third honoree; Jennifer Gorman of Alexandria, fourth honoree and scholarship; Michelle Willingham of Springfield, spirit; and Dana Ellis of Virginia Beach, fellowship.

The program, sponsored by the Credit Marketing and Management Association, was held at the Roanoke Civic Center.
