GRUNDY DOMINATES GROUP AA WRESTLING

The Grundy wrestling team, ranked No. 5 nationally by USA Today, dominated the field and won its sixth straight Group AA state championship Saturday at Hampton University.

The Golden Wave had five individual champions and racked up 204 points, 105.5 more than second-place Poquoson.

Osbourn finished third, followed by Park View and Brookville. Tunstall placed sixth, Carroll County eighth, Northside 10th, Lord Botetourt 12th, Martinsville 16th and Salem 25th.

Joe Shumate of Carroll County defeated Tabb's Tim Elhady 5-4 to win the 119-pound championship.

Speros Koumparakis (160) of Martinsville advanced to the championship finals before losing. - Staff report
