Country music star George Strait was named "George-of-the-Year" by a club of folks in San Antonio named George who like to get together around George Washington's birthday.
Strait, a two-time Country Music Association entertainer of the year, trounced other contenders in Friday's voting. Among the others on the ballot: former San Antonio Spurs star George Gervin, sportscaster George Michael, Star Trek actor George Takei, actor George Hamilton and pianist George Winston.
George Club members started their tongue-in-cheek association four years ago on President Bush's inauguration day. Bush won last year's balloting.
