OBIT DEVENNY L.
DeVENNY, LEONARD W. Leonard W. DeVenny, age 55, a retired Staff Sergeant,
died Friday, February 21, 1992, of heart problems at his home in Leavenworth,
Kan. He was born August 9, 1936, at Clifton Forge, Va., the son of Leonard W.,
Sr. and Nellie Hicks DeVenny. He had lived in Leavenworth since 1972 after
retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air
Force for twenty years, retiring in 1971. Upon his retirement, he entered the
field of corrections and was currently a Lieutenant at the Lansing, Kan.,
Correctional Facility where he has worked for thirteen years. He was a sponsor
for Alcoholics Anonymous. Mr. DeVenny is survived by his mother Mrs. Nellie
DeVenny, Clifton Forge; three daughters Debbie Vohwinkle, Dallas DeVenny, both
of Port Ritchie, Fla.; Donna Hair, Houston, Texas; six sisters Anna E.
Jabbour, Roanoke; Barbara B. Wilkinson, Yucaipa, Calif.; Gladys D. Jeffries,
Jean D. Buchanan, Martha D. Boucher, all of Clifton Forge; Ina D. Cales,
Covington; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the
Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home, Leavenworth, Kan. Burial with military
honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00
to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home where friends
may call 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.
