NATIONAL COMPETITION REWARDS FARMER WITH FOND MEMORIES
Bill McDonald returned from the Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer Awards Congress in Illinois last weekend without one of the four top awards but with a lot of good memories.McDonald, the Virginia Jaycees outstanding young farmer of the year, competed with 37 other farmers for one of four national awards. Farmers from Pennsylvania, New Mexico, North Dakota and Illinois took the top honors.
"It was a real enjoyable trip," McDonald said. "I made a lot of good friends and everything."
McDonald, 31, raises sheep and cattle and farms 1,100 acres in Montgomery and surrounding counties. A 500-acre farm off Prices Fork Road has been in his family since 1763.
