MARTINSVILLE MAN SEEKS CONGRESSIONAL SEAT

A 32-year-old Martinsville man on Tuesday announced his independent campaign for the 5th District seat in Congress.

Michael Dalton will be listed as an independent on the ballot if he obtains the 1,400 signatures he needs. Dalton, an employee of Martinsville Convalescent center, said he was disgruntled with local GOP officials and will run under the banner of the Libertarian Party.

Dalton said he supports a single two-year term for members of Congress, and he favors reducing the capital gains tax to 5 percent.

Rep. L.F. Payne, D-Nelson County, is expected to announce his campaign for a third two-year term in April.
