ANOTHER UNITED WAY IS WITHHOLDING DUES
The United Way of South Hampton Roads said Wednesday it will withhold its commitment to pay annual dues to United Way of America because of questions surrounding the national office's president.United Ways in Richmond, Roanoke and Martinsville have taken similar action.
Questions about William Aramony's 22-year tenure as president of United Way of America were raised in a Feb. 16 article in The Washington Post. The article, and others since, detailed his high expenses for such things as travel, his formation of spinoff corporations, and other management practices. Aramony receives an annual salary of $390,000, not including benefits and perquisites. - Associated Press
