CHAMBERLAIN STILL UNDER OBSERVATION
Wilt Chamberlain remained hospitalized and in stable condition Thursday, a day after complaining that his heart was racing."Mr. Chamberlain is here for observation," a spokeswoman for Centinela Hospital Medical Center who asked not to be identified said Thursday. "He is in stable condition and resting comfortably."
The spokeswoman, who asked not to be identified, said Chamberlain's personal physician, Dr. Ellen Goudlock, planned to release a statement Thursday night.
Dr. Goudlock was not immediately avaiable for comment.
Chamberlain, 55, was taken to the hospital from the Forum, where he was being honored as being a member of the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.
An intern for John Black, the Lakers' director of public relations, took Chamberlain to the hospital about 7 p.m. PST - some 30 minutes before the Lakers faced the New York Knicks.
Black said that Chamberlain said he felt his heart racing and experienced an accelerated heart beat.
A nursing supervisor would only say late Wednesday that Chamberlain was hospitalized for overnight observation, and declined to release any other details.
