Edgar Haven Williams, Sr., age 82, died at his home Thursday, February 27, 1992. Born in Hoges Store, Giles County, Va., on April 25, 1909, he was the son of the late Brackett Birchfield and Nora Ethel Williams. He was a retired engineer with the N & W Railway, and a faithful member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, Hoges Chapel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Stiff Williams. Surviving are three sons, Edgar H. Williams, Jr., Pembroke; Thomas G. Williams, Roanoke; Jerry L. Williams, Pembroke; five daughters, Ethel Roop, Chesapeake; Margaret Stowers, Pembroke; Martha Sanders, Cuthbert, Ga.; Connie Kramer, Roanoke; Alice Dowdy, Pearisburg; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church near Pembroke. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, Pembroke, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church.
