ASU MEN AND WOMEN LEAD CONFERENCE MEET
Appalachian State dominated the first day of the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday as the Mountaineers took the lead in both men's and women's competition.The Appalachian State men's team, winners of six of the past eight indoor titles, takes a 35-34 lead over host East Tennessee State into today's competition.
Western Carolina is in third with 29 points, followed by Marshall (26), VMI (22), Davidson (6), The Citadel (2) and UT-Chattanooga, which did not score.
ETSU's Seamus Power, a sophomore from Dublin, Ireland, set a conference record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:05.37.
VMI's Anthony Brinkley took fourth in the 3,000, and Esteban Frost placed third in the long jump for the Keydets.
In women's action, ASU racked up 38 points, nine better than second-place Western Carolina. Marshall is third, followed by UT-Chattanooga, Furman, Davidson and ETSU. - Staff report
