KNIGHTS' HODGES TOP RVD GIRLS' PLAYER
Cave Spring's Lisa Hodges has been named the Roanoke Valley District girls' basketball player of the year.Hodges is one of two Knights on the first team and one of two Division I signees on the All-RVD squad.
Joining Hodges is Pulaski County's Terri Garland and Cindy Martin, Cave Spring's Kim Stewart, and William Fleming's Marquetta Randolph.
Pulaski County's Rod Reedy and Patrick Henry's Patricia Sheedy were named co-coaches of the year. The team is picked by the district coaches, who meet, make nominations and vote for the squad. They are not allowed to vote for players from their team.
Hodges is headed to North Carolina State on a basketball scholarship while Garland has signed with Virginia Tech.
Cave Spring and Pulaski County each had one second-team selection. Cave Spring's Amy Athey made second team along with Pulaski County's Lena Jones, Fleming's Tonya Kabia, Patrick Henry's Ashaki Johnson and Franklin County's Betsy Forbes.
The honorable-mention players are Cave Spring's Kelly Dierker; Patrick Henry's Elisha Jones, Michelle Dull and Erika Smith; William Fleming's Keisha Harrington; and Franklin County's Lori Reynolds. - Staff report
