EX-DELEGATE WON'T SEEK GOP NOD IN 6TH

Former Del. Emmett Hanger of Augusta County announced Friday he will not be a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 6th District congressional seat this year.

Hanger cited personal and political reasons.

"If I were to run for Congress this year I would not be able to earn a living for the entire rest of the year," said a statement he issued.

The statement also said he was concerned that an intraparty contest would be divisive and could "intensify the regionalism which surfaced during the 1982 election."

Republicans Donna Vance Erikson and Robert Goodlatte and Democrats John Edwards, John Fishwick and Steve Musselwhite are seeking the job being vacated by Rep. Jim Olin, D-Roanoke.
