NORFOLK YACHT-COUNTRY CLUB ADMITS 1ST BLACK MEMBER

The exclusive Norfolk Yacht and Country Club admitted its first black member, clearing the way for the reappointment of a Virginia Court of Appeals judge who also belongs to the club.

Judge Joseph Baker won a new eight-year term on Friday. The General Assembly had held up his reappointment until questions about his membership and the club's policies were resolved.

On Tuesday, the club admitted Dr. Lunzy D. Britt, director of the shock trauma center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
