FRANKLIN COUNTY 5TH IN STATE WRESTLING

Israel Gilbert of Franklin County lost in the finals and the Eagles finished fifth as a team at the Group AAA state wrestling meet Saturday.

Gilbert lost 7-5 in overtime to Dan Austin of Meadowbrook in the 135-pound class.

At 103 pounds, Keno Shepherd of William Fleming lost 5-4 in the championship match to Brian Miller of Kempsville.

Todd Doughty of Cave Spring took third place in the 152-pound division by beating Hansani Menefee of Franklin County 2-0.

Ricky Young of Franklin County was sixth in the heavyweight division and Chuck Ellis of the Eagles finished fifth at 140 pounds.

Great Bridge won the team title. William Fleming was 17th and Cave Spring 19th among 72 teams in the field. - Staff report
