PRINCE, POPE SHARE BLUE RIDGE HONORS

Lord Botetourt guard Bobby Prince and Northside coach Billy Pope share Blue Ridge District boys' basketball honors.

Prince, the fifth-leading scorer in Timesland with a 22.3 scoring average, is the district's player of the year in voting by the league coaches based on regular season play.

Pope, whose Northside team won its third Blue Ridge regular season title in four years, is the coach of the year.

Joining Prince on the first team are Northside's Matt Hill, William Byrd's David Robertson, Salem's Josh Pugh and Lord Botetourt's Craig Layman.

The second team is made up of Alleghany's Michael Hunter and Todd Wheatley; Northside's Walt Derey and Aaron Burford; and Salem's Mark Byington.

William Byrd and Alleghany shared the league's sportsmanship award. - Staff report
