CAVS, ROCKETS, HAWKS TAKE WRRC TITLES

The Vinton Cavaliers, the WRRC Rockets and the WRRC Hawks emerged victorious in their divisions of the Williamson Road Recreation Club's 20th Biddy/Midget League Basketball Tournament on Sunday at Breckinridge Junior High.

The Vinton Cavaliers won the Midget Division with a 63-42 victory over the WRRC Sixers. The Cavaliers reached the championship game with a 41-28 semifinal victory over the Cave Spring Lakers earlier Sunday. The Sixers had advanced by beating the Cave Spring Celtics 54-46 in two overtimes.

In the Biddy Division, the WRRC Rockets took the title, defeating the Southwest Bulls 24-11. The Rockets beat Heights Club Orange 22-11 in Saturday's semifinals, and the Bulls eliminated Heights Club Blue 16-10.

The Girls/Midget Division title went to the WRRC Hawks, 26-6 winners over the Roanoke Catholic Celtics. The Hawks reached the final by beating the Garden City Cougars 23-3 on Saturday, and the Celtics beat the WRRC Starlettes 14-5. - Staff report
