HOKIES BEAT VMI 16-5, REMAIN UNDEFEATED

Virginia Tech scored five runs in the first inning and never was threatened en route to a 16-5 victory over VMI in college baseball action on Monday.

Among the Hokies' 18 hits were three, three-run homers swatted by J.R. Hawkins, Popeye Smith and Les Jennette.

Senior right-hander Robby Douglas pitched six-hit ball over eight innings to earn his first win of the season.

Warren Williams drove in two runs for the Keydets (2-7). Virginia Tech improved to 4-0. - Staff report
