9 BELIEVED EXPOSED TO CHEMICAL ANTHRAX

As many as nine people were treated Monday at Fairfax Hospital after being exposed to a chemical believed to be the nerve agent anthrax, authorities said.

Pam Weiger, a spokeswoman for Fairfax County fire officials, said another 10 people were being observed for possible exposure.

Authorities said a man who appeared to be intoxicated broke open a vial he claimed contained anthrax during a party at a Fairfax home Sunday night.

Police cordoned off the block surrounding the home.

One man who was at the party went home, possibly exposing his family to the chemical, Weiger said.

The vial was taken to the Army biological warfare center at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md., for analysis.
