Minn. minister to speak at Earth Visions

Minn. minister to speak at Earth Visions Program

The first event in Roanoke College's three-day Earth Visions Program will be a lecture by the Rev. John Schramm on March 19.

Schramm, a writer and lecturer on environmental concerns, will speak at 11:15 a.m. in Antrim Chapel on "The Earth is the Lord's and the Fullness Therein."

He is pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minn.

The program is free and part of the college's sesquicentennial celebration.

Feminist scholar to speak at conference at Hollins

Suzette Hayden Elgin will give the keynote address, "Washing Utopian Dishes, Sweeping Utopian Floors," to a conference of feminist scholars on Friday at Hollins College.

Elgin is the author of five books on verbal self-defense, including "The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense" and "Native Tongue." She is the developer of the woman's language, Laaden.

Her address will be held at 8 p.m. in Babcock Auditorium.

There is no admission charge.

Duo to join in musical tribute to Schubert

Pianist David Oei and double bassist Timothy Carter will join the Audubon Quartet March 21 and 22 in concert tributes to the composer, Franz Schubert.

Presented as part of the University Chamber Music Series, the programs will take place in the second-floor recital salon of Squires Student Center at 8 p.m. March 21 and 3 p.m. March 22.

The internationally known Audubon Quartet is in residence at Virginia Tech.

The concert program will consist of Schubert's String Trio in B flat; his Quartet in E flat major, Op. 125, No. 1; and the Quintet in A major, the "Trout."

Tickets for the concerts are $5 for general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens. Reservations should be made by calling (703) 231-5615.
