HOKIES IMPROVE TO 5-0

Brad Clontz pitched seven shutout innings and Virginia Tech banged out 18 hits for the second straight day on the way to a 14-2 college baseball victory over Western Carolina on Tuesday at English Field.

Clontz hurled five perfect innings before Western Carolina's Branan Hooven led off the sixth inning with a single. The junior right-hander from Patrick Springs gave up four hits in winning for the second time in as many decisions. He struck out 10 and walked one.

The Hokies (5-0) also got 18 hits in a rout of VMI on Monday.
