New restaurant opens on the market

Con-feddy's, a restaurant serving a menu of American and Tex-Mex food, has opened in the Roanoke City Market Building.

Con-feddy's occupies space formerly used by two other restaurants, Corned Beef & Co. and the New Market Grill.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Mondays through Saturdays. The owner is Donnie Akers, who had been general manager of Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurante at Valley View Mall.

Gasoline prices fell slightly this week

The national average price of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline dipped 0.2 cent this week to $1.056 per gallon, the American Automobile Association said Tuesday.

The motor club also said its weekly survey shows the national average price of self-serve regular leaded gasoline fell 0.1 cent to $1.052 per gallon. The self-serve mid-grade unleaded average is $1.151 per gallon, 0.6 cents lower than last week. Premium unleaded dipped 0.3 cents to an average $1.238 per gallon.

OW Office Warehouse gives year-end results OW Office Warehouse Inc., a Virginia Beach-based office products retailer with an outlet in Roanoke, reported net sales of $139.6 million for the company's fiscal year ended Dec. 28, up 74 percent compared with $80.2 million for the fiscal year 1990. Comparable store sales increases for the year were 13.4 percent for the 23 stores which had been opened for at least one year.

But the company had a net loss of $9.5 million, or $1.89 per share, compared with a net loss of $3.5 million, or 88 cents per share, a year earlier.

Fourth-quarter net sales rose to $44.2 million from 1990's fourth-quarter sales of $24.5 million, an 80 percent increase. For the quarter, the company had a net loss of $4.4 million, or 76 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $700,000 or 18 cents per share for the comparable quarter in 1990. - Wire report
