BUSINESSWOMAN JOINS WYTHEVILLE RACE

Jackie King, a Wytheville businesswoman and civic leader, said Tuesday that she will run for one of the two Wytheville Town Council seats to be filled May 5.

The incumbents, John Jones and Vice Mayor Tom Bralley, both are seeking re-election.

King and her husband, Bill, have operated Bill King's Wayside furniture store for 20 years. She has been president of the Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce and is president of the Wytheville Quota Club.

She said she got into the race because "I would like to be a part of the town's future growth and I feel the women who reside in the town deserve representation on the Town Council."

In Wythe County's other town, Rural Retreat, Vice Mayor Richard Martin and Calvin Hilton are seeking re-election to council. Incumbent Don Hutton is not running. Other candidates are: James Leon Gordon, Jane K. Hall, James N. Lloyd, Mary Frances Hutton and Garnett S. Miller Sr.
