Pat Duncan, the magnet school's director, will make a presentation on the school Monday to the Smyth County School Board at the invitation of Superintendent Marvin Winters.
The school now draws students from Pulaski, Floyd, Giles, Wythe, Bland, Carroll and Grayson counties and the city of Galax. Montgomery County and Radford are in its service area but are not now sending students.
Duncan told the school's governing board Tuesday that about 60 people at an open house for parents last Thursday had so many questions that the scheduled 7-8 p.m. program stretched to 10 p.m.
Giles County Superintendent Robert McCracken said there was interest in Giles in expanding the number of available slots for its students and even having a summer program.
McCracken said the state Senate's budget bill includes full funding for governor's schools, but the House of Delegates version does not.
"We're 50 percent of the way there," he said.
Duncan said more equipment for the school will be bought with a Title II grant from the state Department of Education.
The school has new computers on loan for six months, with an option to buy them.
Duncan got board permission to work with McCracken, the superintendent in charge, on a mentorship program for seniors commuting to the school. It would allow them to visit places such as Virginia Tech and learn about the fields they are interested in.
