UT-CHATTANOOGA GAINS 2 CONFERENCE HONORS

University of Tennessee-Chattanooga center Keith Nelson was selected Southern Conference Player of the Year by the league's coaches Tuesday.

The Moccasins' Mack McCarthy was chosen Coach of the Year.

Nelson got three votes and East Tennessee's Calvin Talford got two in the player voting. Guard Terry Boyd of Western Carolina, selected player of the year by the media Monday, got one vote along with UT-Chattanooga's Tim Brooks and East Tennessee's Rodney English.

Marshall's Malik Hightower was picked freshman of the year. VMI's Bobby Jones made the all-freshman team selected by conference sports information directors. Also making it were ETSU's Reese Dudley, Western Carolina's Tim Ford and Appalachian State's Chad McClendon. - Staff report
