3 ARE INDICTED IN BEDFORD COUNTY CHURCH BREAK-INS

Three people were indicted Tuesday, accused in a string of break-ins at Bedford County churches during the Christmas season.

A Bedford County grand jury indicted each of the three - Curtis Leroy Floyd, 18, and his brother, Roy Lee Floyd Jr., 20, and Crystal Dawn Miller, 21 - on eight counts of breaking and entering and two counts of grand larceny.

Bedford County Sheriff Carl Wells said anonymous tips to Bedford's Crime Line led to the charges after break-ins at six churches of various denominations and in all parts of the county. Break-ins also were reported at two community centers.

Audio, video and public-address equipment was taken in the nighttime burglaries.

The grand jury also indicted Michael Ayers, the subject of a six-day police hunt in January, on two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of grand larceny.

Ayers is accused of breaking into a Bedford County church, taking jewels from a Bedford County home and stealing a car, Bedford prosecutor James Updike said.
